Bakeries Around Pittsburgh, PAWe all love the Steelers, the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and the art museums, but Pittsburgh has even more to offer. We’ve compiled a list of four incredible bakeries in the Pittsburgh area where you can get the most delicious treats, from doughnuts to decadent cakes, croissants, loaves of sourdough, and much more. We love these spots and we’re pretty sure you will, too!

Peace, Love and Little Donuts

This donut shop lets you feed your inner hippie, offering unique, flavorful doughnuts for more than 10 years in Pittsburgh’s Strip District. Creative, unusual, and delicious cake doughnut flavors abound here, including Almond Brothers, cinnamon roll, maple bacon, Snick Jagger, and many, many more. The doughnuts’ unique, small size means that you can try a bunch of different flavors and topping combinations. While you’re there, grab a cup of the locally roasted coffee.

La Gourmandine Bakery

For something more upscale but no less delicious, check out La Gourmandine Bakery at four different locations, including downtown and the original, cozy Lawrenceville location. Founded by a French couple in 2010, this innovative bakery offers a variety of options, from Danishes and pastries to bread and savory items. Different flavors of quiche or sandwiches made with fresh French baguette make the perfect lunch. Top off lunch with a yummy eclair, macaron, or mini pain au chocolat.

With 72 hours’ notice, you can place an order for one of their gorgeous tartes and cakes, including tarte aux pommes, parfait au chocolat, and the truly decadent Opera, a coffee mousseline cake layered with dark chocolate ganache and coffee sponge cake.

Madeleine Bakery & Bistro

Madeleine Bakery, located in Wilkinsburg, not far from Regent Square, is a relative newcomer to Pittsburgh. The adorable exterior gives way to an inside packed with the delicious smells of bouchons, baguettes, muffins, scones, and their signature madeleine, a small, spongy cake. The wonderfully light and flaky croissants will make you feel like you’re in Paris.

The kouign amann, a twist on croissants with a crunchy outer layer of caramelized sugar, is a local favorite, but it’s usually only offered on weekdays. It can run out quickly, so make sure to get there early.

Five Points Artisan Bakeshop

To really get your carbs on, visit Five Points Artisan Bakeshop, located in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood on the edge of Point Breeze. Their menu features an extensive array of bread items like baguettes, challah, several different types of sourdough, and more. But you’ll also find plenty of sweeter treats, including scones, tarts, and croissants, plus sandwich options offered every day except Sunday and Monday.

There’s a small table where you can devour your snack, but this is more of a take-out place, so load up on loaves of baguette, apple Danish, or a savory tarte and bring them home.
